GrowlMail and OS X 10.6.2

2009 November 10

There are several utilities that I find I just cannot live without on my Mac. Near the very top of the list is Growl and GrowlMail. Unfortunately, GrowlMail has this unfortunate habit of being automatically disabled every time I do a system update. Yesterday’s release of 10.6.2 was no exception. Thankfully there are others like me who find it impossible to live without and have figured out how to get it running again. If you’re having the same problem, you can find some simple instructions here. It got me back up and running in no time.

If you find that running those commands does not work for you, go to either /Library/Mail/ or ~/Library/Mail/ and see if you have a “Bundles (Disabled)” folder with the GrowlMail bundle in it. If so, quite Mail, move it back into the “Bundles” folder, run the commands again (with the proper path), and then re-open Mail.
